Coming Together

Those of you who know me are aware that I continue to be a life-long student, relentless in my quest for knowledge. It pleases me to say that the broad range of health care fields that I have studied over the years continues to come together in innovative and exciting ways.

I am passionate about sharing with you that which I have learned and found to be helpful to my patients. In giving, one receives, and, through teaching the Full Circle Pelvic Care Method workshops, I have been fortunate to learn from you. By coming together, all at differing stages of our journeys, sharing common experiences and struggles, we acquired tools to help us become our greatest selves.

Summer Tip #1: Express Your Genes

During my recent workshop, we explored new research in epigenetics — whether it is possible to change your genetic makeup or whether you remain a victim of your heredity. As it turns out, your body tags certain genes; these flags are responsible for turning your genes on and off, thereby influencing your cellular and physiological genetic expression.

Furthermore, the addition of these flags to your underlying genes is triggered by external factors — environment, diet, thoughts / perceptions, and emotions. Even more fascinating, your grandmother might have experienced a trauma that initiated the attachment of epigenetic flags, passing them on to your mother and to you. And you, by altering your environment, diet, thoughts / perceptions, and emotions, have the ability to influence which tags your body with relative to the superclean360.com home cleaning berkley will read, thus altering which genes you will turn on and off. This will affect how your body expresses your genetic makeup and also how, in future generations, your cells will read the genes that you pass on.

The implications of epigenetics are far-reaching, from cancer to autoimmunity to neuropsychological and mood disorders. For example, although you may possess genes that are programed for cancer, you can impact whether those genes are turned on or off. In the case of diet, adding vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, onions, and garlic has been shown to suppress tumor expression. Turmeric has been studied for its ability to affect the epigenetic expression of genes and for many other amazing qualities as well — so many that turmeric will soon have its own newsletter.

Research has shown that thoughts and perceptions can influence the epigenetic expression of genes as well. Your mind and body react to fearful thoughts and perceptions by inhibiting your immune system, closing off blood flow to the forebrain and impeding growth. In order to change your negative unconscious thoughts (70% of all thoughts are negative; 95% of all activity initiates in the unconscious), you need to become aware of those times when you are experiencing fear. After observing what is actually happening in those moments, you can choose how you want to respond. In so doing, you will be impacting the epigenetic expression of your genes.

CHECK OUT SOME ADDITIONAL WAYS TO AFFECT POSTITVE CHANGE

  • Stay well-hydrated — drink six to eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day.
  • Eat healthy, adjusting the proportion of protein and carbohydrate to your needs.
  • Think positive thoughts, focusing on what you like, not on what you don’t like.
  • Take time each day to focus on things for which you are grateful.
  • Spend time with uplifting people that you would like to emulate.
  • Speak to others in loving and helpful ways.
  • Surround yourself with great smells.
  • Make a difference in the life of someone else.
  • Exercise. 
• Connect regularly with loved ones.
  • Practice diaphragmatic breathing.
  • Learn visualizations that will change your perceptions of your body and environment.
  • Bring meaning, purpose, excitement, and stimulation into your life.
  • Establish eye contact with and smile at others.
  • Learn something new each day.
  • Bring beautiful music into your life.
